My Approach

So what’s Psychological Coaching?
Remember the saying about teaching someone to fish so they can feed themselves for the rest of their life? This philosophy is at the heart of my Psychological Coaching & NLP Practice. The way we think and what we believe ourselves to be capable of, determine the path our life takes. That’s why understanding the way we think and knowing how to change unhelpful patterns is so important.
The goal of psychological coaching is to put you back in charge of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Whether that’s breaking unhealthy habits, achieving goals and dreams, creating more harmonious relationships, more motivation (or inspiration!). It’s about building resilience, changing negative self-talk and building yourself up from the inside. For some, it’s about getting off that emotional roller coaster. For others, it’s about getting out of a rut and putting the spark back into your life. If you’re already successful, it’s about building on your successes.
Most of all, it’s about you feeling in control of you, and in command of your future. It’s about empowering you.
It’s about hurdling those pesky obstacles that have held you back in the past and stopped you from achieving your hopes and ambitions.
It’s also about modelling the strategies that many successful people use naturally (elite athletes especially so). It’s a proactive approach for people who want to be in charge of their own destiny.
“When the only tool you have is a hammer, it is tempting to treat everything as if it were a nail.”
~ Abraham Maslow
I like Maslow’s quote because it helps explain why two people can experience the same things and interpret them quite differently. We tend to view situations, people etc. based on our own experiences, knowledge and skills. Our tools. And that’s why you’ll hear me refer to my approach as a ‘mental toolkit’.
My Philosophy
I believe people have vast potential and that positive change is always possible, once we possess the ‘know how’. My main goal is to help self-empower you by sharing with you some of that ‘know how’ — skills and strategies which will make a real difference in your life. Much of my work involves helping individuals build and protect their self-esteem, as rock-solid self-esteem is a great foundation for creating the life you want. We can achieve so much more in life when we feel good about ourselves.
Some background history
A background in psychology provides a solid foundation for my NLP & Psychological Coaching work. I am a qualified NLP Practitioner and an Associate Member of the ABNLP (Australian Board of NLP). There are two main driving forces in my life – the need to be creative and to help others. A career in visual communications satisfied this first need (but not the second) and led to a return to Uni to study psychology. For the last six years I have been coaching people using the NLP methodology to create the changes they want in their life. It’s creative and rewarding work. And I’m helping people too.
